Chun
Henry Chan passion lies in music. A member of the Concert Band, Jazz
Band, and Chamber Choir, and All City High School Chorus, Chun believes
his artistic expression speaks louder than words.
Chun's
accolades and distinctions include Valedictorian, president of the
National Honor Society, captain of the golf team, and co-editor of the
math department's publication, The Exponent. He is a member of
the All City High School Chorus, Jazz Band, chamber choir, New York City
math team, Italian Club, Key Club, Art & Photography Club, Biomedical
Research Internship at Polytechnic University, and a volunteer at the
Salvation Army.
Paris
Singh, Chun's English teacher wrote, "This student may without an iota
of exaggeration be described as the acme of scholarship and veritable
wonder.

Nadia
Mahmood volunteered for the Breast Cancer Marathon, Penny Harvest,
Habitat for Humanity, Elmhurst Hospital, and the Senior Citizen Center.
She has served as president of community UNICEF, vice president of
Planet Green, is a member of the Cardiopulmonary Rescue Club, Medical
Career Club, Debate Team, Physics Club, Chess Club, Student Association,
and Key Club.
She has
received the Cardiopulmonary Rescue Award, New York State Academic
Excellence Award, and has participated in the National Youth Leadership
Forum.
Nadia
would like to be a physician.

"In an environment that some people may fear and sink, I will
embrace and thrive," said Derek Fong. He began to learn
chemistry and geometry in the second grade. Constantly striving
to achieve more and to be the best, the death of his mother only
enhanced his drive to succeed. Fong has been accepted into
various academically challenging programs, including the
Biomedical Honors Program, the Technology Academy, the City of
Hope Summer Research Program, the Technology Academy, the City
of Hope Summer Research Program, and has presented his research
at Biomed, the Southern California Academy of Sciences, and a plethora of
science fairs. Fong plans to attend a university in California and
pursue a career in biotechnology. |

Amara Neng

Amara Neng emigrated to the United States as
refugee from Cambodia in 1981. At the age of 13, she started working
multiple jobs to support her family financially. She and her siblings
earned their own incomes to buy school clothes and supplies, and for
social activities with friends. While working at Children's Hospital in
Boston, she is also the Student President of Asian Studies in Action,
and a member of Pre-Med Society, National Honor Society as well as a
volunteer student tutor. Enrolling at Yale University in this year,
Amara aspires to be a pre-med student and attend medical school.

Ryan
Hoshi is a senior at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton,
California and fourth generation American.
Ryan often used his toy
microscope to examine samples of water from his father's Koi pond and
believes this fascination with science is leading him into a career in
medical research.
He served as captain of
his high school Science Bowl team and was an intern in Clorox Company's
research and development division.
Ryan will attend the
University of California Berkeley where he will major in bioengineering
pre-medical.

Xiaoti
XU was born in Harbin, China and is a member of a family whose
members are all medical doctors. He came to America at the age of nine
and he lives in Centereach, New York.
"Ever
since I was small it was my goal in life to be like them (his family of
medical doctors)," Xiaoti said recently. "For years I spent time in
laboratories to conduct scientific research."
Xiaoti was
a semi-finalist in both the Siemens Foundation Science and Talent Search
and the Intel Science and Talent Search. |

Charlene
Belinda Fassler will soon be graduating from University High School
in Tucson. Born in Arizona, Charlene lives with her mother and sister
who have been an inspiration in her entire life.
She will attend Arizona
State University where she knows she will excel in all her studies and
will work as hard as possible to reach her goal in life to become an
urban planner.
She hopes to become a
role model to disadvantaged students by providing that hard work does
pay off and yearning to succeed will bring them success.

Eileen
Elizabeth Yang lives in Los Angeles and attends North Hollywood High
School Highly Gifted Magnet. Her parents and older brothers and sisters
immigrant from Vietnam.
Eileen was founder and
President of her high school chapter of Amnesty International and
captain of the Girls Varsity Tennis Team.
She will be attending
Yale University to study history and political science in hopes of
becoming an attorney, specializing in environmental or civil rights law,
which will equip her with the knowledge and skill to protect the rights
of those who are at a social and economic disadvantage. |
