PAUL SHEARMAN ALLEN & ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP

The US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC) is accepting applications for the PAUL SHEARMAN ALLEN & ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP.  This Scholarship provides financial assistance to Asian American high school seniors who have demonstrated scholastic achievement, financial need and will pursue post-secondary education at an accredited educational institution in the United States. The scholarship is valued up to $5,000. 

Award recipients will be announced during our 23rd Annual CelebrAsian Business Opportunity  Conference ’08, on May, 2008 in Washington, DC, during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.  The Annual Conference recognizes the contributions Asian Americans have made toward education, business, the arts, entertainment, sports, science, public and community services.

Scholarship Criteria
The applicant should be:

  • At least 16 years of age at the time of application

  • Of Asian Pacific Island heritage

  • A citizen or permanent resident of the United States

  • Beginning full-time study at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the United States in Fall 2007

  • Able to attend the 23rd Annual CelebrAsian Business Opportunity  Conference ’08, on May, 2008 in Washington, DC

The Applicant Should Demonstrate:

  • Academic achievement of  3.3 GPA or higher

  • Leadership in extracurricular activities

  • Involvement in community service

  • Financial need

Application Instructions:

The applicant should furnish the following:

  • Download the application for the PAUL SHEARMAN ALLEN & ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP, complete and attach a 2 x 2 crisp headshot  photo (scanned pictures will not be accepted; staple the upper right hand corner of the photo in the photo area of the application)

  • Additional attachment (if necessary) describing extracurricular activities, academic honors, and community service activities (maximum, 2 pages)

  • A 100 word biography

  • An essay of 500 words on I Need This Scholarship, typed, double-spaced and signed by the applicant and his/her academic guidance counselor on the upper right hand corner

  • Transcripts from high school capturing the past two years of coursework

  • A copy of household tax return signed by taxpayer(s)

  • Two letters of recommendation from those listed as references in the application: (1) one from high school, and (1) one from a community service organization (recommendations must be in sealed envelopes)

  • Information on proposed post-secondary course of study (major) and associated costs (tuition/room/board from one university being applied for)

  • Send the requested information only; do not send additional materials

  • Punch 3-holes on the left-side of all pages (for filing in Scholarship Committee binder), except the sealed reference letters

  • The application and materials must be send together in one complete package.  Please pay attention to all instructions. Failure to follow these instructions is grounds for denial of the application for consideration

Award Information

  • Must be used for a full-time course of study at an accredited college or university commencing in the Fall of 2008

  • Will be paid directly to the recipient’s college or university to help to defray the cost of tuition, fees and/or board

  • Will not pay for correspondence courses, internet courses or study in a country other than the United States

  • Will pay for travel, lodging and participation at the 23rd Annual CelebrAsian Business Opportunity Conference in May 2008 in Washington, DC where the scholarship Award will be presented

USPAACC reserves the right to verify the accuracy of the information contained in the submitted application package.

Application and all supporting materials will be kept confidential; application materials will not be returned.  Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college of recipients’ choice and will be used for college tuition only,

not for any related or associated cost.

Application and supporting materials must be postmarked by February 22, 2008
